Washington Co., Wi – After 18 years on the bend Washington County Circuit Court Judge James K. Muehlbauer is retiring from Branch 2.
According to ballotopedia, Muehlbauer was first appointed to the position by Governor Jim Doyle in 2007 and was elected in 2008. He ran for re-election to the Washington County Circuit Court in 2014 and was reelected in 2020.
Muehlbauer started his career as an Assistant Attorney General with the Wisconsin Department of Justice in 1979. He spent 22 years as a private practice attorney and he worked as an assistant city attorney in West Bend, Wi, from 1984-1986.
Muehlbauer earned his B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1974, and his J.D. from the Marquette University Law School in 1979. Muhlbauer also earned an M.A. in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1976.
Muehlbauer will be 73 years old on July 3, 2025.
Gov. Tony Evers is now seeking applicants for the Washington County Circuit Court – Branch 2. The appointment will fill a vacancy being created by Judge Muehlbauer’s retirement, effective August 8, 2025.
The new judge will complete a term ending July 31, 2026.
