Kettle Moraine Lutheran wins at home | By Jason Howarth

January 11, 2022 – Jackson, WI – Kettle Moraine Lutheran hosted Wisconsin Lutheran in a non-conference matchup Tuesday night.

The Chargers  dominated much of the game, including starting with a 13-0 run.

Wisconsin Lutheran struggled to get on the board, taking nearly eight minutes into the game to score.

The Vikings found their mojo and slowly began to chip away at the Chargers, who’s aggressiveness was met in kind by the Vikings and even came back to haunt KML in the form of 23 total fouls in the game.

KML would still take a 30-18 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Chargers smothering defense and tenacity attacking the offensive glass for second and even third chances spelled doom for the Vikings.

Wisconsin Lutheran made an effort to keep pace, but ultimately KML went onto win the game handily 62-46.

The Chargers were led by junior Allis Cain with 13 points. The Vikings’ leading scorer was junior Ally Rhymer with 11 points.

KML senior Alexa Schwalenberg spoke proudly of the team’s efforts and highlighted the importance religious faith has in their sports games. “Our coaches make things like praying a big part of our routine and team identity,” Schwalenberg said.

When asked how it felt to share the court with her younger, sophomore sister Taylor Schwalenberg (who had 12 points in the night’s contest), Alexa said “I love it (being on the team with my sister). It’s so fun; we are both team-oriented players.”

KML improves to 7-5 for the season and will play its next game against non-conference opponent Brookfield Academy on Thursday January 13, 2022 at 7:15 p.m.
