Born in Milwaukee and later moving to Rockfield, Cpl Bell entered the service in January 1949.  He was stationed in Japan and later deployed for action in Korea. While on duty with the 1st Cavalry Division, Richard was killed in action on July 24, 1949.  He was awarded the purple heart posthumously.
A letter Mrs. Bell received from General Douglas MacArthur, read, “The untimely and tragic death of your son, Corporal Richard A. Bell, who met his death on the field of battle in Korea, has shocked all of us deeply. Some measure of comfort may be derived from the knowledge that he died in the service of his country and in the defense of a peace-loving people.”
Korean War Veterans Association Commander Norbert Carter said this memorial service is an annual event.
The service will be conducted by Korean War Veterans Association Chaplain, James Maersch.  The service will include family members of the Bell family.
