My steer uses more hair products than my mom | By Tyler Rabuck – Kettle Country Kids 4H

July 22, 2023 – Kewaskum, WI – My name is Tyler Rabuck. I’m 13 years old and this is my fifth year showing livestock at the Washington County Fair through the Kettle Country Kids 4-H club.

Like many Livestock Showmen I play multiple sports while keeping my grades up along with showing my steer and pigs at jackpot shows throughout the year and the County Fair.

My steer named “Nitro” takes up much of my day once the calendar flips to May. Washing and drying him 2-3 times daily along with applying hair products and a lot of brushing, an hour of walking and practicing show ring routines fill up my day pretty quickly.

Beside the show cattle upkeep he also requires “normal” livestock chores like 2 feedings, cleaning, water and moving him from pasture at night to a cool room with fans during the hot summer day.

There seems to be a time during every early summer that I wonder if all the trouble and 18-hour days are worth it, and then I get to the fair with my steer and pigs and I immediately realize it’s definitely worth the effort and time.

Please consider coming to the fair on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at 4 p.m. to see my livestock along with my fellow 4-Hers and FFA members animals and possibly bid on some of the finest livestock you can get to feed your family and friends.
