Washington Co., WI – Murphy & Prachthauser, S.C., a personal injury law firm with offices in West Bend, Milwaukee, South Milwaukee, Waukesha, and Mequon, Wisconsin, will be giving aways life jackets on Saturday, June 3, 2023 to encourage the use of U.S. Coast Guard-approved flotation devices while swimming or boating in area waterways this summer.
Child, infant and youth life jackets will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis. The event will be held at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Poplar Street during the West Bend Farmers’ Market from 7:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. or until all life jackets are gone.

“Taking critical precautions to prevent leading causes of child injury, like drowning, is a step toward keeping children safe,” said Michelle Hockers, Milwaukee personal injury attorney with Murphy & Prachthauser, S.C. “Summer is a great time to enjoy time with family at a pool, beach, or on one of our community’s beautiful lakes, but it’s important to remember that drownings are a leading cause of injury death for young children ages one to 14.”
The Coast Guard Auxiliary, the civilian uniformed volunteer component of the United States Coast Guard, will support Murphy & Prachthauser’s life jacket giveaway events by providing:

â—Ź Instruction on how to properly use a life jacket

Milwaukee-area residents who would like to receive a free child life jacket must pre-register at www.murphyprachthauser.com/life-jacket-giveaway and will be required to select the number of jackets requested, sizes, and pick-up date and location.
Hockers added, “Sadly, drowning occurrences have risen in recent years, but are preventable when the proper safety measures and supervision are provided. Our team is committed to helping spread awareness, education, and the necessary resources to help families stay safe while swimming or boating during the warmer months ahead.”
