Memories of my comrades in arms in Vietnam | By Tom Haase

September 10, 2022 – Slinger, WI – This September 10 will be my Stars and Strips flight. 55 years ago, I came home to a country divide and torn apart by mistrust of government and disdain for the common soldier.
Vietnam
Since that time, I’ve have served in Desert Storm and Iraq.
The homecoming was very different in Desert Storm and Iraq and I’m very thankful for those homecomings, but the Vietnam homecoming has always haunted me.

No one person can truly understand the betrayal of the common soldier of Vietnam.
American
We served with a true sense of duty, honor and sacrifice for our country, and 58,220 gave their all. I have friends who have struggled since Vietnam, wounded in body and soul.
Estimates of over 50,000 Vietnam veterans have committed suicide. I’ll never forget my comrades in arms, we are brothers and sisters to the end of time.
This week has been filled with my thoughts of 1967-68, a time that will never leave my mind and I will always remember those who served with honor. I hope and pray, as I walk down that Vietnam Monument, as I have before, that my comrades who are on the wall, are walking with me.
Thank you all to my Facebook friends of the VFW Post 3358 site. To my post comrade, thank you for all you have done, for our great country.
