Obit: Dorothy L. Petri (nee Sonnenberg), 92, of West Bend

May 17, 2017 – West Bend, WI – Dorothy L. Petri (nee Sonnenberg), age 92, of West Bend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the Wellington Place in Hartford.  She was born on January 26, 1925 in Milwaukee, WI to Herbert and Alice (nee Bloom) Sonnenberg.  Dorothy married the late Ralph G. Petri on April 7, 1945 at Trinity Lutheran Church in West Bend.

After she retired from Kickhaefer Mfg. Co. in 1988, Dorothy loved babysitting for grandchildren and many other children with her gentle heart. She also enjoyed the Hodag Country Music Festival for 14 years, going to the casino, and playing cards that she never lost.  Dorothy always was happy and cheerful, but also had a sassy side with her quick wit!

Dorothy is survived by her children Merry Jane (Carl) Cook of Iron River, MI, Robert (Gwenn) Petri of West Bend, Nancy (Sandy Ross) Holmes of West Bend; 7 grandchildren Jessica Cook, Andrew (Holly) Cook, Robert Holmes, Lisa (Thomas) Bichanich, Amy Jo Petri, Megan (Edward) Marx, granddaughter-in-law Michelle Cook, 10 great-grandchildren Justin, Eden, Addison, Collin, Aubrey, Desmond, Caleb, Brayden, Hattie and Winnie, great-great grandson Owen, sister Delores Heppe, sister-in-law Mary Luedtke, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Gordon “Gus” Sonnenberg, Gerald (Jeri) Sonnenberg, sister Betty (Kenneth) Mac Farlane, grandson Adam Cook, granddaughter Jennifer Cook.

A Funeral Service will be at 6:00 pm on Monday, May 22, 2017 at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel of West Bend with Rev. James Hill presiding.  Interment of Ashes will be at Washington Co. Memorial Park on Tuesday, May 23 at 1:00 pm.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday, May 22 from 3:00 pm until time of service (6:00 pm).  Memorials are appreciated to New Hope UCC (4360 Jackson Dr., Jackson, WI 53037).

A Special Thank You to Dr. Sharma at Aurora Grafton Hospital, the staff at Wellington Place, and staff at Seasons Hospice for all their loving care of Dorothy.
