Slinger High School snowboard team wraps up regular season with strong performance | By Delaney Braun

February 10, 2023 – Slinger, WI – The Slinger snowboard team finished its last weekend of the regular season at Alpine Valley. On Saturday and Sunday, the teams were blessed with lots of snow and nicely set courses for the best weekend of racing all season.

Individual medals for the alpine and boardercross events went to Junior Jack Bullis with second and third, Junior Joe Hefter with a first, Sophomore Emma Smith sweeping a first, second, and third place, Junior Mickey DeLong finishing first and third, Freshman Abrah Adams with a second, Freshman Olivia Strupp with a second, Senior Ava Stortz with a third, Senior Emily Whealon with a second, and Senior Delaney Braun with a first and a pair of second-place finishes.

With this race completed, the Slinger team had multiple All-Conference awards. In slalom, Bullis finished the season in third with Hefter in fourth. Junior Luke Schmitt rounded the top 10 with an eighth-place finish.

For the slalom girls, Strupp, and Smith finished in first and second places with DeLong in fourth, Stortz in fifth, Adams in sixth, Junior Sydney Kebbekus in seventh, Braun in ninth, and Junior Skylar Brandt in tenth. The girls team overall finished in first in the conference and the boys team placed in third by just one point below West Bend.

For giant slalom, Bullis topped the conference in first with Schmitt behind in fourth. Senior Brayden Wiedmeyer made the top ten with his tenth-place finish. On the girl’s side, Strupp and DeLong topped first and second, Adams and Smith took fourth and fifth, and Stortz, Kebbekus, and Braun ended the top 10 with eighth, ninth, and tenth place finishes. For the team’s overall finish, the boys finished second and the girls once again finished in first.

Finally, in boardercross, Hefter placed third, Junior Christian Flarity finished eighth, and Wiedmeyer had ninth place. The girls had five top 10 finishers with Smith in third, Strupp in fifth, Stortz in seventh, Kebbekus in eighth, and DeLong in ninth. Slinger boys team finished in second and girls swept all three events with yet another first-place finish.

On February 8, seven girls and seven boys were selected to represent the teams at the 2023 WIARA snowboard state championships. Those named include:

Boys: Jack Bullis, Joe Hefter, Luke Schmitt, Gavin Braun, Alex Schneeberger, Brayden Wiedmeyer, and Jacob Lischka.

Girls: Olivia Strupp, Emma Smith, Mickey DeLong, Sydney Kebbekus, Abrah Adams, Delaney Braun, and Kallie Weyer.

These teams were selected based upon combined times throughout the season.
