POLL | Washington County quarterly newsletter arrives in mail. Is this a good use of taxpayer dollars?

January 19, 2022 – Washington Co., WI – It was July 28, 2021 when WashingtonCountyInsider.com first published the story about Washington County government sending out a quarterly newsletter.

It’s a hardcopy format. Sent via the U.S. Postal Service. The latest issue arrived over the weekend.

The price is $200,000 annually.

“We are sending out 55,000 of these things and direct mailing them,” said county executive Josh Schoemann. “It’s $50,000 each time as of right now.”

Schoemann pointed out the amount spent on the publication covers both the production and the postage of the mailer.

There was an article serving as a reminder to pay your real estate tax, another update on marriage requirements and tips for winter and traveling safely… among other things in the glossy four-page newsletter.

Below are some responses…

Ed Tennies – I’d rather see free park admittance.

Jesse Kremer- Waste of money.

Ann Enright – Save the money!

Michael Albiero – Design is very unprofessional!

Candace Beine – Make these accessible online and those can request a hard copy. That money could’ve went to making the county parks free for the community. I would rather access the parks round than read a minute article. Unnecessary cost to produce and ship.

Sara Duba – I can tell you right now, I’ve never opened one. I walk it straight from my mailbox to the recycle bin 🤷🏻‍♀️ Post it on Facebook, run in ad in the paper, hell, get a 60 second ad on the radio. It’ll still be cheaper and not such a waste.

Carol Stuettgen Schowalter – Another reason I’m glad I don’t live in Washington County anymore. Sadly enough, I would think the majority would either toss it out without reading it.

Theresa Schellinger – Total waste of taxpayers money!! I get one and throw it right in garbage!! I should be on it return to sender!!

Gary Konrath – I support our county administration on most everything, but not this newsletter.

Kathy Paape Rassel – Ridiculous waste of taxpayer money!

John H Bulawa – How many people would willingly give their email address to the government to have this sent to them online?

Kris Chesak Pansing – Online would be sufficient ; just be sure to allow/grant access to everyone!

Tracy Jacklin-Hetebrueg – I never read mine. Right in the trash. Waste of money.

Rob Wiedmeyer – Money could be spent better elsewhere.

Greg Giessen – Not a good use of taxpayer dollars

Kathy Reinhart Mayer – Waste of money – Josh is good at that

Becky M. Abbott – It looks antiquated. Waste of money and goes right in the trash. Take the money and give the sheriff’s office deputies a higher raise!

Michele Lee – Online only please… let people provide email addresses. Save trees and taxpayer money.

Daniel Selness – Waste of money. Never even look at them
