Neighbors in Washington County should be sure to set aside some time before October 7 to take in the traveling photo exhibit of military mascots at the History Center Washington County.

One of the stories is about how “troops allowed Leaky the Lion to roam loose in the mess hall during lunch.” The photo dates to 1961 as the 32nd Red Arrow Division was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington.

You’ll never guess where troops got the lion.

See the exhibit through October 7 during regular Old Courthouse Museum Hours: Wed-Fri 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Sat 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

The traveling exhibit is courtesy the Wisconsin Veterans Museum.

Funded in part by the Wisconsin Humanities Council with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Free with regular admission.

Special thanks to: Wisconsin Veterans Museum and Wisconsin Humanities Council.

The Wisconsin Veterans Museum is an educational activity of the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs.
