April 14, 2018 – West Bend, WI – A harsh ‘welcome home’ for Dave Hunsicker of West Bend who is now dealing with a hole in his roof after a large tree limb broke loose and landed on his house on Seventh Avenue and Poplar Street.
Hunsicker said he got home around 3:30 p.m. Saturday and saw the emergency vehicles and his road shut down. “I found out it was my house that had the problem and the big tree came down and punched a big hole through my roof and tore up the front of the house,” he said.
The West Bend Parks Department is on scene. Hunsicker said the home dates to 1892. “It looks like everything will be repairable,” he said.
“The crews are now going up into the attic to see if they can get the tree out.”
The wintry, late-season storm has brought an icy mix to West Bend and Washington County along with neighboring communities.
The damage on Seventh Avenue littered the lawn with ice-covered branches. The sidewalk and grass were slick with a thin snowy mix.
The National Weather Service says it appears the cold, snow and freezing rain are here to stay into the coming week. Temps could reach the 40s by Tuesday.
