WBW varsity volleyball secures 3-1 win over Port Washington | By Makenna Kappler and Molly Spaeth

September 19, 2020 – West Bend, WI – The West Bend West Lady Spartans varsity volleyball team went 3-1 beating Port Washington, 30 – 28, 25 – 14, 15 – 25, 25 – 14 in its first conference match of the season.

The outsides and defense stood out during this game.  After a close first game the Spartans came back with more energy and power to finish the match.

After losing the third set, West was able to bounce back, join together as a team, and win its first conference match.

The key to victory was consistent serves and an aggressive attitude and with that the Spartans were able to control most of the match.

Both defense and offense did a great job of adjusting to Port Washington’s attacks, controlling the ball and putting it away.

Leading the team was Makenna Kappler with 23 digs and 10 kills, Rory Griffin and Leah Nagel each had  seven kills , Jada Slagle stepped up with 15 digs. Rory Griffin and Natalie Mesko each had two blocks.

The next match for the Lady Spartans is Tuesday, September 22 at 6:30 p.m against the Slinger Owls.
