September 19, 2020 – Dodge Co., WI – Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt has posted a scam alert.

Scam alert

         Scam alert

Over the last 24 hours I have recieved 35 phone calls from various phone numbers in California’s 408 area code. I know someone else who recieved 67 calls similar to what I experienced.

Every call was the same and started with a message saying that my ICloud account had been compromised. When I told them I dont have a ICloud account, their story changed that someone opened a fraudulent account using my android information. They ultimately wanted me to download an app called Team Viewer so they can access my device remotely to steal my information.

Please, do not fall for these types of scams. Do not provide them any information and do not download any apps. Legitimate companies will not contact you in this manner.

The sheriffs office is not asking you to report these calls, but simply keep hanging up. If you are victimized and something is actually stolen from you, that is when we will want to hear from you.

Be safe and keep your information safe. Remember the best advice is always, JUST HANG UP!
