West Bend Police make an arrest in connection with 3 suspicious fires

Feb. 28, 2017 – West Bend, WI – West Bend Police have taken a 21-year-old West Bend man into custody in connection with a series of suspicious fires in the community over the past few weeks.

ARSON / RECKLESS ENDANGERING SAFETY  – City of West Bend
On Monday, February 6, 2017, at 8:04 p.m., a West Bend police officer investigated a report of a fire in front of Sweet Creations, 825 S. Main Street. The fire was determined to in a decorative wicker basket near the front entrance to the business which was close at the time. The fire was suppressed by an employee of a neighboring business and the damage was contained to the wicker basket. No one was injured as a result of the fire.

On Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, at 7:56 p.m., a West Bend police officer investigated a report of a fire inside a garbage dumpster in the parking lot of the Seven Up Bottling Company, 413 W. Kilbourn Avenue. The business was closed at the time of the fire and damage was contained to the dumpster. No one was injured as a result of the fire.

On Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, at 11:13 p.m., a West Bend police officer observed heavy smoke coming from the rear of Mountain Outfitters, 109 S. Main Street. The officer found a small utility trailer containing cardboard boxes, parked under the deck of the closed business, on fire. The business was closed at the time of the fire. The occupants of the building were evacuated safely and no one was injured as a result of the fire.

On Feb. 28, 2017, West Bend Investigator’s identified and arrested a 21-year-old West Bend man as the person responsible for intentionally starting all three fires. The man was placed in Washington County Jail and charged with one count of Arson to a Building, two counts of Arson to Property Other than a Building, and two counts of Reckless Endangering Safety for starting fire to an occupied building.

 

 

OWI – 6th OFFENSE – 1600 Block of West Washington Street
On Sunday, February 26, 2017, at 2:42 PM, a West Bend police officer stopped a vehicle for speeding and observed signs the driver was intoxicated. The 46 year old Appleton man failed the standardized field sobriety tests, blew a .29% in a PBT, and was arrested for OWI. He has five previous convictions for OWI.

Possession of heroin/ possession of drug paraphernalia – 900 Block of Tower Lane
On Saturday, February 25, 2017, at 1:37 p.m., a resident reported individuals sleeping in a parked vehicle in the area of Tenth Avenue and Tower. Responding officers located the vehicle and observed two individuals sleeping in the vehicle. The officers also observed drugs and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

A 32-year-old Kewaskum man was arrested and placed in jail on charges of Possession of Heroin, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and a Probation Violation as he is currently on probation through the Wisconsin Department of Correction for Felony Possession of Narcotic Drugs. A 24-year-old West Bend woman was also arrested and placed in jail on an outstanding warrant through the Germantown Police Department.
