Carol Margaret Smith (nee Runde) passed away peacefully on Monday, September 5, 2016 at her residence in Saukville, following complications caused by heart problems. She was 78 years old.

Carol was born in South Milwaukee on October 6, 1937, the daughter of Frederick and Caroline Runde. She moved to Milwaukee and graduated from Pulaski High School. She later attended MATC and became a laboratory technician.

Carol met Rodney Smith while both were employed as laboratory technicians at Solar Coatings Co. in Cudahy. They were married in 1958. The couple lived in Milwaukee until 1972 when they moved to Port Washington. Later, they moved to Saukville.

Carol was employed at various jobs in Ozaukee County. She was a professional seamstress and had her own bridal alterations business, which was her favorite occupation. Carol was also an excellent craft worker and sold her productions at Shoppes of Port Washington.

Carol was an avid reader of mystery novels. Carol and Rodney also enjoyed world wide travel. Mrs. Smith loved visiting and shopping with her daughter and grandchildren and was also a passionate Packer and Brewer fan.

Carol is survived by her husband Rodney, her sons Mark and Grant (Dawn), and her daughter Leslie (Steve) Hughes. She is further survived by 7 grandchildren, her sister Bette (Robert) Cosgrove, a brother William Runde, other relatives and friends.

Carol was preceded in death by her daughter Wendy Smith, parents Caroline and Frederick Runde and her sister Mary Dorst.

The family will receive visitors on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave. in Port Washington from 1-3:45 pm with a short prayer service at 3:45 pm. She will be laid to rest at Forest Home Cemetery in Milwaukee.
