Obituary, Mick Schram

“Mick” as he is affectionately known was born June 22, 1938 in Milwaukee, WI. to Harvey E. and Sally Schram.

Growing up in Calhoun, Mick graduated from Waukesha Central High School in 1955. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1956. He was truly proud of his duty of service with the Marines and added to his nick name with “Marine Mick”. He was decorated with an M-1 Rifle Sharpshooters medal and honorably discharged in 1962. While on leave from service in 1959, in true love story fashion, Mick met his loving wife Jill of 57 years at the Waukesha Bowling alley. He left for service the next day but not without a promise from Jill that she would accept a date with him when he returned. Mick sent Jill a reminder on the back of a photo of himself while stationed in San Diego. When Mick returned a year later, Jill kept her “date” promise and they were married in 1961.

Mick worked in construction and sales for 35 years and retired in 2003. He was an avid hunter, searching only for the prize buck in the 40 years of hunting. He was also an angler and his favorite spot to fish was in Merrill at the Sheridan cabin on the Wisconsin River. He caught numerous trophy muskies, always releasing them into the river as the thrill of the catch was more important than the trophy.

Mick received trophies in baseball, football, bowling, golf and trap shooting. He was an avid fan of the Packers, Brewers, and other Wisconsin teams. He read the sports section daily while enjoying Jill’s special coffee with whipped cream.

A member of St. Kilian’s parish, Mick was a man of Catholic faith and never missed Mass. He was an honorable, faithful, proud, loving husband and father. As anyone who had the fortunate opportunity to know Mick they would say simply “he is a good man.”

Mick is survived by his loving wife, Jill; his sons that that he raised lovingly, Mike (Laura) and Sean (Joni) O’Neill; five grandchildren, Michael, Ryan, Katelynn, Katherine and Leah; his brother Harvey “Bud” Schram; sister-in-law, Bridgette Walters; brothers-in-law, Chris Sheridan, Matt (Lynn) Hartz, Jeff (Carol) Hartz and Tim (Sue) Hartz; and many nieces and nephews who all played a special role in Mick’s life.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Harvey and Sally Schram; four sisters-in-law, Edie Schram, Patricia O’Neill, Jude Sheridan, and Mary Cross; and brother-in-law, Jim Walters.

He was a great man, role model and mentor who is loved dearly and will be deeply missed.
