Friday, Sept. 21, 2018 – Friday night at the Slinger Football Stadium 28 seniors were honored for their years of dedication to the program. The seniors went home very happy with a win over second-place rival Port Washington Pirates.
With seven and half minutes remaining in the first quarter the Owls took an early lead that was never relinquished with a 3-yard run by Jeraed Lighthizer. A two-point conversion attempt was not successful giving the Owls a 6-0 lead.
Nine seconds into the second quarter Logan Homberg scored on a 5-yard run, the PAT by Trevor Ulesich was successful for a 13-0 score.
With just under 5 minutes remaining in the first half, Homberg scored on an 11-yard run and Ulesich came through again for a PAT. At the end of the half Slinger was in the lead 20 – 0 over the Pirates.
With just over 5 minutes into the third quarter Slinger’s quarterback Danny Breuer made a 12-yard pass play to Junior Connor Goodwin, Ulesich’s PAT was good for a 27 to 0 lead. A minute and 24 seconds later the Owls scored again with a 1 yard run by senior Jake Bernarde, the PAT by Ulesich was good. Now Slinger was at 34 to 0.
With many second and third string players in for Slinger, the Port Washington Pirates were able to score on a 7-yard pass from Ethan Bairel to Jacob Lippe. The PAT kick was short giving the Pirates a 6-point score.
At the end of the third quarter it was the Owls 34 – 6 over the Pirates.
Jacob Lipper completed a 25-yard pass play to Devon Edwards for 6 points, the point after attempt missed and Slinger led Port Washington 34 – 12.
With just under 3 minutes remaining in the game Trevor Ulesich made a 26-yard field goal for Slinger’s final score of the evening.
Twenty-two seconds later Ethan Bairel completed a 62-yard pass play to Jacob Lipper, PAT was no good.
Final score was Slinger Owls 37 – 18 over Port Washington.
Next Friday, Sept. 28 the Owls travel to West Bend to face off against the West Bend West Spartans at 7 p.m.
